Do You Remember Love?

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Macross (マクロス) was first aired in Japan on October 3, 1982 and began a franchise that would range from the original Macross anime series to Macross 7, Macross Plus, Macross Frontier, among others. This page was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Macross since the anime series was first aired in 2012, and the 30th anniversary of the first movie Macross: Do You Remember Love? in 2014. The original series ended on June 26, 1983, and was thereafter aired in the America in 1984/1985. It was not aired in the Philippines during the early 1980s because since 1979, the Marcos administration had banned mecha anime for "excessive violence." Incidentally, Marcos sounds fairly identical to Macross. However, in 1985, at about the same time "metal heroes" have become a trend in the country, it would be aired by RPN Channel 9 in English, and then in the 1990s by ABS-CBN Channel 2. Meanwhile, SBN Channel 21 aired the first movie in the vernacular language. Besides having a mecha and drama genre, Macross features culture, particularly music, and love as vital instruments towards eventual peace. As part of this commemorative page, this history blog will feature a song of Macross that once graced television screens with lyrics in Baybayin, the ancient Filipino script. It is fervently hoped that readers will appreciate this commemorative page.
